Village Community Schools (VCS) which operates Global Pathways School (GPS) in India is building a new model for sustainable education and development. VCS was founded in Toronto in October 2008 by Theresa Mersky, Barbara Goodwin-Zeibots and Barbara Galbraith.
Teaching children to question, think, and learn about the world around them is the bedrock of our philosophy. We aim to provide a classroom environment that encourages sustainable, inquiry and activity-based learning to help children develop in all areas – academic, cultural and physical. The medium is English, opening many doors in a twenty-first century India that is connected to the world.
In June 2009, VCS opened Global Pathways School in Chettipalayam, Tamilnadu, India. The school was started in a renovated, leased building with 45 students in two classes. Since then, the school has added a grade every year. In June 2016 we added a double cohort of Lower Kindergarten and started our first Grade Nine class. There are now 302 co-educational students in 13 classrooms, 30 full time teachers and 5 co-curricular teachers for art, dance, karate, music, physical education and yoga.
